Urban Planning and Development Authority Celebrates Bahrain Sports Day


Bahrain Sports Day was designated a half working day under the endorsement of His Royal Highness, the Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and the initiative of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs; Chairman, Supreme Council for Youth & Sports; President, Bahrain Olympic Committee.

After His Highness Shaikh Nasser directed all ministries and government bodies to organise sports events, the Urban Planning and Development Authority organised a manifold sports programme for its employees in the field of fitness and health education.

One of the Authority’s priority is to encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle through sports, where efforts are based on creating a suitable environment in various cities of the Kingdom that supports the possibility of exploiting the multi-use walkways; for walking, running, cycling, and horse riding which contribute to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, the Authority stated, in its role, it has allocated number of lands for the establishment of sports clubs and youth centres in cooperation with various governmental entities to support the sports sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Authority expressed its gratitude and appreciation for His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, as his support and patronage for the Bahraini Sports Day encourages the collaboration of various governmental entities in achieving the goals of this great national event in order to enhance the role of sports in maintaining public health. The Authority stressed the commitment to participate reflects the social responsibility towards the Kingdom.

The sports programme which had been prepared by the Authority included sport walking under the supervision of a sport’s instructor, where he gave a lecture on “The Importance of Adopting Sports as a Lifestyle”. The Authority later distributed healthy meals to its employees to spread awareness about healthy nutrition.
