While participating in the Bahrain International Garden Show 2019, Urban Planning and Development: ‘Reviving National Agricultural Heritage is Everyone's Responsibility


The Urban Planning and Development Authority has confirmed that participation in the Bahrain International Garden Show 2019, under the patronage of His Royal Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, and the generous support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the wife of His Majesty and the Chairperson of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development.

The show was held from 21st to 24th February under the slogan " Agriculture: A promising future career choice". Moreover, the Authority stated that the event is an ideal opportunity to communicate with farmers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector to learn about the challenges they face in preserving the Kingdom's green landscape. Additionally, the means to revive agricultural heritage due to its vital role based on planning the kingdom’s lands, including agricultural land, in accordance with the National Strategic Structure of Bahrain 2030.

The Authority clarified that as part of its readiness to present the Green Belt Project in Al Burhama during the show, the team made a field visit to the region to present the farmers with the initial vision with the aim of knowing their aspirations and suggestions. The project included public services for the region including roads, paved sidewalks, commercial corners dedicated to the display of the agricultural products as well as public corners. The Authority aims at creating an environment capable of meeting the highest international standards of sustainable cities, explaining that the farmers’ opinions would help the Authority in preparing appropriate studies when rezoning in accordance with the laws in force.

The region is expected to attract agricultural investments from the private and public sectors. In addition, to being a vital element that promotes domestic tourism and provides jobs for Bahraini citizens in the agricultural sector. Furthermore, the Green Belt Plan Project reflects the attention paid by the wise leadership to increase the Kingdom's green areas, as it is important for gradual transition to sustainable cities. Besides, green areas are an important element of cities and a global standard when classifying sustainable and smart cities. Also, it is parallel with the objectives of sustainable development.

The Authority invites the dignified public to visit its corner V2 at the exhibition to view the project, present their suggestions and creative ideas through interactive screens or via the electronic questionnaire. This contributes to the preparation of the plans in line with the citizens' aspirations and allows the concerned parties that will adopt the project to provide all the public services and components that will enable the region to be a vital attraction that supports the local economy, ensures agricultural sufficiency and revitalises the agricultural profession as one of the most promising specialization for the future.
